On 27th September sixteen Exe-Calibre members ventured to London for The Great River Race. I (Hayley) for one loved the experience as much, if not more, than the first time! Jason had not only set us the target of beating our time from last year but also completing the course in two hours thirty minutes or under.  We successfully managed to do both, smashing our PB by twelve minutes.

This was no doubt partly due to the extra training sessions run by Jason and attended by several crew members; to our assertive helm, Ian Rains; and to Emily our amazing drummer who continued to encourage us and call both technical and motivational calls right to the end! Paddlers gave one hundred percent, digging deep, especially for the last mile and a half when we powered the boat forward for an unplanned but impressive long drive to the line! The fact, that so many of the crew cannot remember passing significant sights along the course demonstrates the sheer focus of all those on board Isca that day.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the team spirit, grit and determination that spurred us on.  Thank you Exe-Calibre for a very memorable 21.6 miles!! For those of us who were able to stay for the post race festivities we were rewarded with a wonderful firework display.  Watching it whilst chilling with fellow Exe-Calibites was the perfect end to an amazing day!

Competitors will be awarded their certificates at the Annual end of Season Awards bash next month. Final classifications will be uploaded when available.
